Garett Backman is the principal of REO Asset Strategies L.C. REO Asset Strategies is an affiliate of Rubicon L.C. and Backman L.C. whose principals are Garett and Charles Backman. Garett Backman has been actively investing in and managing real estate since 1981. He has been involved in the brokerage, management and development of real estate in Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Tennessee; primarily in industrial, office, apartment and retail buildings, and his companies have owned and managed over 1,000,000 square feet of industrial, office and retail space. His companies have owned numerous apartment buildings, with some residential construction and condominium conversion projects.

From 1980 to 1981, Mr. Backman practiced law at Troutman Sanders, in the commercial real estate section. Mr. Backman attended Dartmouth College and graduated in three years with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics. He also attended Boston University School of Law and was awarded a Juris Doctor degree. Mr. Backman has been a member of NAIOP (National Association of Office and Industrial Parks), a member of ULI (Urban Land Institute), and the Georgia Bar. He has been a licensed attorney and real estate broker in Georgia and Massachusetts.

Since 2008 Mr. Backman's practice has focused on representing borrowers negotiating with creditors, and helping high net worth individuals protect their nest egg from would be litigators and creditors.

In 1977 Mr. Backman passed the Georgia bar and started practicing law, first from from 1977 to 1980 with Macey, Brock and Todd and its successors, where he primarily represented creditors and lenders in civil cases; and then from 1980 to 1981, with Troutman Sanders, in the commercial real estate section. In 1982 Mr. Backman opened up his own legal practice and real estate investment company. Mr. Backman attended Dartmouth College and graduated in three years with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics. He also attended Boston University School of Law and was awarded a Juris Doctor degree.
